Holiday at the Foidlhof in Hochfilzen – right in the middle of things instead of just being there

At the end of April, we were on the road as part of our Tyrolean Unterland reportage to get to know special holiday farms in person. In the coming weeks, we'd like to take you along on the blog, farm by farm, experience by experience.

Each of these places tells its own story. Today we'll start with the Foidlhof in Hochfilzen, a place where farm life is not just displayed, but lived.

Hochfilzen, a cool spring day. The road winds through the Pillersee Valley, with snow-capped peaks, lush green meadows, and the first spring flowers on either side. When we arrive at the Foidlhof, the farm seems like it's stepped out of time, yet at the same time, you immediately sense that there's life here. This is precisely where our first glimpse into a true farm holiday in Tyrol begins.

A traditional farm with heart

The Foidlhof in Hochfilzen is idyllically situated in the Kitzbühel Alps and boasts a long history. Built in 1557, the holiday farm is now in its fourth generation of family ownership. Since the 1980s, it has been welcoming holidaymakers with genuine Tyrolean hospitality. Back then, it was one of the first farm holidays in Austria.

Since 2007, the farm has been run by the current owner family and is continually evolving, investing a great deal of love, time, and a clear focus on the needs of its guests. Whether it's family-friendly holiday apartments, a bread roll service, fresh milk and eggs on request, or homemade eggnog, you simply feel welcome here.

Farm holidays to participate in

A tour of the stables and playground quickly reveals that the Foidlhof isn't just a show farm, but a place to get hands-on, marvel, and be there. Children can jump in the hay, pet the animals, and romp around on the large playground. The stables are open and can be visited at any time—an invitation to experience everyday life on the farm. Guided rides are held regularly in the summer, including a cozy barbecue evening. The cows spend the warmer months on the farm's own alpine pasture , where guests are welcome to join them. Dogs and cats are also welcome, which is especially pleasing to animal-loving families.

Excursion tips around Hochfilzen

Whether in summer or winter, there's plenty to discover around the Foidlhof. Hochfilzen is located in the heart of the popular Pillerseetal holiday region, between the Lofer and Leogang Steinberge mountains.

• Only a few minutes to the Buchensteinwand with the famous Jakobskreuz, ski lifts and toboggan run
• Hiking toursto the Hoametzl Hut (only 25 minutes on foot) or further to the farm's own alpine pasture
• Directly from the farm: numerous e-bike and MTB routes
• Numerous excursion destinations for young and old nearby
• Hochfilzen cross-country skiing center, Fieberbrunn ski area – perfect for winter holidays

And for connoisseurs, the region offers farm shops, alpine huts and inns that focus on genuine Tyrolean quality.

What makes the Foidlhof so special? Perhaps the animals. Perhaps the nature. Perhaps also this genuine feeling of being not just a guest, but part of the farm.
