What does "family farm" mean and what advantages does it offer?
Not all farms offering farm holidays are equally suitable for families. While many are generally family-friendly, their specialization and focus on families can vary considerably. With the 'Family Farm' certificate, we aim to recognize those holiday farms that are particularly child-friendly and offer special extras for their youngest guests. A farm holiday is always an unforgettable adventure for children. On certified 'Family Farms,' this experience is enhanced by child-friendly activities , the opportunity for direct contact with animals, and a diverse range of children's programs – sometimes even including childcare .
Criteria for the "Family Farm" certificate
Contact with animals
Children have the opportunity to interact directly with animals, for example through a petting zoo.

There is a playground with at least four different play structures for several age groups.
Entertainment
A playroom or a toy box in the room provides entertainment in any weather.
Activities
Children can actively experience life on the farm, for example by collecting eggs or feeding animals.
A family farm must be equipped for children, be able to cater to the needs of families and children, and offer a child-friendly environment. Certification only makes sense if a farm would describe itself as family-friendly. The prerequisites for this are the four main criteria:
- Animals to pet on the farm
- Playground with at least 4 different play structures
- A dedicated playroom for children or play facilities in the room/apartment
- Agricultural activities with children (e.g. collecting eggs in the morning)
Furthermore, all certified holiday farms must operate an active, organic, or sustainable agricultural program . Numerous negative reviews can also preclude certification, especially if they contradict the certification criteria.
The certification is valid for 24 months .

To ensure the accuracy of the information and a high level of certification quality, there is a multi-stage verification process. This process is as follows:
- Confirmation of the truthful information by the host in the system.
- Submissions are checked by the editorial team of bauernhofurlaub.info.
- Upon successful completion of the test, the certificate will be awarded (online and by post).
- Random on-site checks by the editorial team of bauernhofurlaub.info.
- Evaluation of guest reviews on bauernhofurlaub.info.
Should a subsequent inspection by our team reveal that the criteria for being presented as a family farm are not met, certification will be revoked immediately. In the event of numerous negative reviews for a farm, an on-site inspection will be conducted – this may also involve a " mystery guest " visit.
How can my farm become a family farm?
A Premium PLUS listing is required for the certification application. This can be booked directly through the system. Afterwards, all data required for both the listing on bauernhofurlaub.info and the certification process must be entered in the administration area . The system then confirms the accuracy of all data entered . The bauernhofurlaub.info editorial team will then review the application within two business days. If the required criteria for family farm certification are met, the farm will receive the award on bauernhofurlaub.info as well as the certification package.
