Three tips for a farm holiday in the Schladming-Dachstein region

For many mountain lovers, the drive through the Ennstal is one of the most beautiful routes in Austria. Coming from Graz, Linz or Vienna, you can see the impressive size of the Dachstein Mountains on the right and the even more gentle foothills of the Niedere Tauern on the left. Even though it stands alone and therefore creates a special imposing appearance, the Grimming, as the foothills of the Dachstein Mountains, is the first eye-catcher in the Ennstal. Every town you pass has something to offer. Whether castles, alpine pastures or special excursion destinations, such as the Friedenskircherl at Stoderzinken , the Ennstal has a lot to offer for every type of holiday.

The region has a lot to offer, especially when it comes to holiday farms. Whether it's an adventure holiday with animals, relaxation and some wellness high up or a full-service farm. When you choose a holiday farm in the Schladming-Dachstein region, you always end up with a hit. We personally visited our three tips for a farm holiday in the Ennstal and describe our impressions in this report.

The slightly different holiday farm – adventure farm

A very special sight awaits the arriving holidaymakers at the Schiefer Adventure Farm in Haus im Ennstal . A restaurant called “Speckhütte” is surrounded by a huge pond, created for fishermen and bathing beauties. The hobbit houses on the hillside look just as much like an adventure as the climbing tower, the water playground or the props for 3D floor shooting . The stables on the farm house

No matter whether you talk to Corbinian Schiefer, the enthusiastic owner, or his father Johann, you can hear the passion behind the Adventure Farm project. Anyone who comes to the farm with the family can look forward to an unforgettable holiday. Numerous indoor and outdoor play equipment, an indoor playground with a bouldering wall and the willow playground show that it is families with children that the adventure farm in Haus im Ennstal specializes in.

As a guarantee for a carefree holiday, the farm is regularly certified as a safe farm. Anyone who thinks that the holiday experience at the farm ends with action and family time is wrong. Peace and relaxation are also ensured: Finnish saunas, a panoramic sauna , an infrared cabin and a hot tub in the outdoor area ensure a romantic and relaxing time. But things will be exciting in the next few years, as new concepts are continually being implemented at the Adventure Farm. A covered riding area is planned and who knows what else - at least you can vividly imagine a lot of it when you listen to Corbian and Johann Schiefer.

The Schladming ski farm for families and mountain enthusiasts

At the Stocker family's Abelhof in Schladming / Rohrmoos, family and ski farm holidays are the order of the day. Families will find the best conditions for a wonderful holiday in their 9 apartments with around 30 beds. A self-catering hut up the valley (Rohrmooser Obertal) is also part of the offer at Abelhof. Just a stone's throw away from the entrance to Schladming's ski heaven , Hebert Stocker clearly relies on two seasons in his family business. Summer rentals have been an integral part of the farm since the mid-1960s, and winter tourism was added in the 1970s and has become more important year after year. But especially in summer, the children get the full farm program with feeding the animals, guided pony rides and extensive farm activities.

You are also a member of the Sommercard for the Dachstein-Schladming region . It sees itself as a baby and children's farm and the reviews of the farm show that the concept is working very well. While on one side there is a playground, a spacious playroom and a petting zoo for children, on the other side there is wellness and enjoyment for adults with farm-gate products , a Finnish sauna, a bio sauna and an infrared cabin. Mountain enthusiasts in particular enjoy the location of the farm, which is also ideal for a hiking holiday and of course for a winter holiday. The range of apartments on offer is continually modernized during the closing times between summer and winter.

A place to relax – for families, active holidaymakers and dog owners

At our last stop we are already leaving the Ennstal. But before we reach the state of Salzburg, we come to a particularly beautifully located mountain farm . In Mandling - a few hairpin bends go up - is the Irxner mountain farm . Johannes Höflehner has created a little paradise there for those who are looking for peace and quiet , need a vision and want to be pampered. We cook here five times a week and provide excellent breakfast and dinner . With a total of 28 beds in 2 holiday apartments and 10 double rooms, the farm is suitable for both families and couples. But the farm is probably best suited for families with dogs. At least this is attested to by numerous awards such as the hundehotel.info Award and other certificates in the entrance area. With summer celebrations for guests, a tractor ride for children and a comprehensive wellness offer , the farm is equipped for every need of its guests. While bathing in the large whirlpool on the terrace, you can enjoy the view of the Planai in Schladming and watch the sheep grazing in the pasture in front of the farm. So much mountain romance is a special experience, especially outside of the main holiday times. The Irxner mountain farm is particularly popular with dog owners who are looking for activity and peace and quiet. But couples, cross-country skiers and skiers also particularly enjoy their time on this absolute feel-good farm.

At the end of our journey through the Ennstal and the Dachstein-Schladming region, we found farms to vacation in that offer that little bit extra .
